Poly-Gel Guidance

Health and Safety
  • POLY-GEL IS NON TOXIC AND BIODEGRADABLE.

  • KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN AND ANIMALS AS IT MAY CAUSE CHOKING.

  • DO NOT CONSUME.  IF POLY-GEL GRAINS ARE SWALLOWED SEEK MEDICAL HELP.

Preparing Poly-Gel
  • Shake packet to ensure dye is distributed amongst crystals. Mix 1 teaspoon of Poly-Gel with 1 litre of water; leave for 3 hours to expand.  Place expanded Poly-Gel into colander and wash away excess colouring using running water. Leave in the colander for 1 hour.  The Poly-Gel is now ready to use.

Mixing colours
  • Preparing each colour in individual containers, following the steps above.  Do not mix the colour before the crystals have expanded.  Then by using the colour guide below you can create a combination of colours for your home.

Poly-Gel Colour guide
  • Red and Blue = Purple.  Yellow and Blue = Green.  Yellow and Red = Orange.  To lighten the colours add white.

To convert a rooted plant into Poly-Gel
  • Remove the soil from the roots using water, to clean the roots.  Hold the prepared plant in position with the roots inside the vase.  Fill the container using the colour combination of your choice.  You must fill the container to the very top with fully expanded Poly-Gel.  After 3 days, refill to the top of the vase with more expanded Poly-Gel, as it will shrink with compression.

Maintaining your plant
  • Water your plant every 2-3 month when the level of the Poly-Gel has dropped, or when the roots of the plant have been exposed to air. Water you plant with a mild fertilizer (i.e. ‘Baby Bio’) using only 2 drops per litre of water. Wait for 2 hours, if you find there is excess water you MUST drain the water off.

  • As with normal indoor plants you can spray the ‘Folla’ feed.

  • Please note Bromeliad plants must be sprayed once a week with water and maintain water in their ‘heart’.

Miscellaneous
  • When the plant roots require air, place a drinking straw into the Poly-Gel and blow lightly.

  • When the gel becomes dirty, you can wash Poly-Gel in a colander using warm water and leave to dry for 30 minutes.

  • If you find the colour disappearing you can replenish with 3 or 4 grains of Poly-Gel of the same colour will re colour by adding to the water when you water your plant.

  • Poly-Gel should NOT be placed in direct sunlight.
